Six Gas Turbines with 200 MW of Flexible Generation Set to be Installed in Zhambyl Region
Six gas turbines with 200 MW capacity will be installed in Zhambyl Region to enhance energy resilience, with the first unit already dispatched from China.
In the Zhambyl Region, six gas turbines with a total capacity of 200 MW will be installed to enhance the resilience of the energy system. The project, undertaken by the Ministry of Energy, aims to develop flexible generation and establish new generating capacities.
As part of this initiative, work has already begun on constructing flexible generating units in the Zhambyl Region. Recently, the first independently designed G50 (F-class) gas turbine with a capacity of 50 MW was dispatched from China to the region.
The project is being implemented following auction tenders held in 2024 on the JSC 'KOREM' trading platform. 'GES Myrzatai' LLP emerged as the winner for the construction of flexible generating units and entered into a contract with the Chinese company Dongfang Turbine for the supply of three G50 gas turbines with a total capacity of 150 MW.

Additionally, another three gas turbines with a total capacity of 60 MW are expected. With the inclusion of supplementary equipment, the overall capacity will reach 200 MW. The turbines are anticipated to be operational by 2027.
This project is aimed at developing flexible generation and strengthening the region's energy supply resilience, reports TUKH24, citing the Ministry of Energy's website.
