Kazakhstan to Offer Reduced Electricity Rates for Producers of Socially Significant Goods
Kazakhstan introduces reduced electricity rates for producers of socially significant goods to lower production costs and stabilize retail prices.

Producers of socially significant goods in Kazakhstan will soon be able to access electricity at reduced rates.
The Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan has drafted an order to amend the Pricing Rules in Socially Significant Markets. This amendment, specifically to Appendix 13 of the said Rules, is titled "Calculation of the Ceiling Price for Retail Sale of Electricity by Socially Significant Market Entities."
The document introduces a new support mechanism for domestic producers of socially important food products by reducing electricity costs, which is a key component of production expenses.
The proposal allows producers of these goods to purchase electricity at rates potentially up to 20% lower than the current wholesale price. This benefit will be applicable upon the signing of a memorandum with a central or local government authority to stabilize prices for socially significant food items. The preferential rate applies solely to the electricity used in the production of these specific goods.
The regulation aims to support businesses producing staple foods such as bread, flour, dairy products, eggs, sugar, meat, and other goods classified as socially significant. By reducing electricity expenses, producers can lower their production costs, thereby sustaining stable retail prices.
The draft of the order "On Amending the Order of the Minister of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 36 of February 1, 2017, 'On Approving the Pricing Rules in Socially Significant Markets'" has been posted on the "Open Rules" portal for public commentary.
