Kazakhstan's Ministry of Energy Explores AI Applications in the Energy Sector
Kazakhstan's Ministry of Energy discusses AI's role in enhancing the energy sector, showcasing successful pilot projects and future proposals for digital solutions.
The Public Council of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan held a meeting to discuss the application of artificial intelligence in the energy sector. The event took place on July 16, 2026, chaired by Zhakyp Khairushev with the participation of Vice Minister of Energy Bakhytzhan Ilias, council members, and representatives from the ministry's structural divisions.
The main topics of discussion were the implementation of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in the energy sector, as well as the development of digital twins for power plants and their integration into educational programs.
Participants were shown pilot projects that utilize AI in energy, such as the inspection of power lines using drones and artificial intelligence technologies. Over two days, 618 pylons of power lines were examined, more than 2,000 images processed, and approximately 6,800 defects identified, with a damage recognition accuracy of 98%.
Additionally, a project for robotic diagnostics of thermal networks based on acoustic resonance technology was presented. In the pilot project conducted in Shymkent, over 1.2 km of thermal networks were inspected, resulting in repair cost savings exceeding 70%.
The meeting concluded with proposals for the further development and implementation of digital solutions in Kazakhstan's energy sector, reports ЖКХ24 citing the Ministry of Energy's website.
