Astana Mayor Urges Careful Treatment of City Property

Astana Mayor Zhenis Kassymbek addressed the capital's residents via his Instagram page, highlighting the issue of vandalism in public spaces.

Kassymbek emphasized that daily efforts with residents aim to improve the comfort and well-being of the city; however, there are numerous instances of vandalism and disrespect towards public spaces. "Some irresponsible individuals damage bus shelters, trash bins, benches, sculptures, urban infrastructure, and more. Among these offenders are also minors," he pointed out.

The head of the state stressed the need to counteract legal nihilism, focusing on the notion that "respect for Law and Order is not about fear of punishment but is primarily a distinct trait of citizens with a strong sense of responsibility."

According to Kassymbek, the attitude towards public property reflects one's personal culture and upbringing. He added that all objects created for the city's enhancement exist for people's convenience, and their damage causes harm both to the city and its residents.

In monitoring the condition of public property, 143 individuals have been held accountable for damaging or destroying others' and communal property. Additionally, 928 administrative offenses related to littering public spaces have been recorded. Efforts to prevent vandalism also involve removing graffiti that advertises narcotics.

Kassymbek said that systematic work is being conducted with the police to ensure public order. Daily police patrols help identify offenders. "Each year, we increase the number of surveillance cameras in the city. It's important to understand that no offense will go unpunished," he emphasized, adding that society should develop zero tolerance for law violations and public condemnation.

"According to the law, anti-social actions will be severely punished, up to criminal charges. Parents of juvenile offenders will also be held accountable," the mayor urged.

"I call on all residents and guests of the capital to treat our city with care – the place where we, our families, and loved ones live," Zhenis Kassymbek concluded.
