Nine Public Spaces in Almaty Get a Makeover
Almaty completes upgrades to nine public spaces, enhancing urban infrastructure and leisure areas for residents.

Almaty has seen the completion of enhancements to nine public spaces as part of a comprehensive city-wide program for the development of public areas. By the end of the first half of this year, the main workload on these projects has been finished, and new projects have begun.
Refurbished sites include Dostyk Avenue, Pushkin Street, the Sairan Lake promenade, Geologists Alley, Southern Park, Baum Grove, FLOW PARK, Republic Square, and the plaza in front of Atakent Exhibition Center. Final touches and adjustments are currently being made on these locations.
During the refurbishment process, pedestrian zones, outdoor lighting, and automatic irrigation systems were updated; landscaping was completed; small architectural forms, children's and sports playgrounds, and modern recreational zones were installed. The technical readiness of these sites means that residents can already use them for walks and leisure.
In tandem with these projects, the next phases of the improvement program continue. By the end of 2026, it is planned to complete the reconstruction of the First President's Park, as well as enhancements to eight city streets—Timieryazev, Masanchi, Seifullin, Zharokov, Zhandosov, Rozybakiev, Satpaev, and Abai Avenue. The beautification of the square near the N. Sats Theater for Young Spectators is expected to be completed by the end of August.
Additionally, construction of a Children's Science Museum is underway, with the opening scheduled for the end of this year. Reconstruction of the Airport Lake territory has started, aiming to create a modern recreational area for residents. These projects are designed to improve the quality of urban spaces, develop leisure infrastructure, and create comfortable public environments.
The Urban Space Development Office noted that a daily surveillance of construction work, machinery, and workforce numbers is conducted, ensuring that projects meet their deadlines.
