New Digital Solutions Presented in Almaty for the 'Taza Qazaqstan' Program

On August 3, 2026, a new digital tool was launched in Almaty with the support of the city akimat to promote environmental awareness, responsible consumption, and a system for separated waste collection under the national program 'Taza Qazaqstan'. This initiative is being implemented by the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection of Almaty in partnership with various collaborators.

The presentation of the ECO Network digital platform took place during an environmental festival at Arbat Street, organized by the Almaty Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection together with the First Eco-Hub and the ECO Network project. It was fitting that the event was held at this location, where the city's first bench made from recycled plastic was installed a year ago.

Representatives from government institutions attended the event, where they were shown the features of the new digital tool and explained how to participate in the ecological initiative. Starting August 3, government employees can join the program by sorting household waste and regularly sending it for recycling. The digital platform will enable real-time tracking of organizations' engagement in ecological initiatives.

Further expansion of the platform's functionality is planned, including the introduction of new services using artificial intelligence technologies, as well as involving business representatives, educational organizations, colleges, and universities in the system.

Additionally, two new ecological initiatives for city residents were announced at the event, supported by the Almaty Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection in collaboration with ecological partners. The projects aim to promote waste separation, increase recycling of secondary raw materials, and enhance the population’s ecological awareness.

The first initiative, 'Your Furniture from Recycled Plastic', allows residents to bring certain types of plastics, such as plastic fruit crates, to Eco-Hubs located at: 44 Markov Street and Satbayev University. Information about the collected materials will be recorded in the econetwork.me app, and once the necessary amount is accumulated, participants can exchange it for products made from recycled plastic.

The second initiative, 'I Care for My Land', involves the safe collection and recycling of lithium-ion batteries from mobile phones, tablets, e-scooters, drones, and other devices. Collection will be organized at the same Eco-Hubs, and the full list of accepted items will be available in the econetwork.me app. Valuable prizes will be awarded to the most active participants.

Today, more initiatives focus on enhancing ecological culture, implementing modern technologies, and expanding opportunities for separated waste collection. The Almaty Akimat supports such projects and will continue to create conditions for the implementation of ecological initiatives in partnership with the city's residents,' stated Serik Adilbayev, head of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection of Almaty.
