Pilot Project on Energy Cybersecurity Launched at Astan-Energia's CHPP-2

A pilot project on energy cybersecurity is being launched at Combined Heat and Power Plant-2 by JSC "Astan-Energia." Vice Minister of Energy Bakytzhan Ilyas, along with Vice Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Doszhan Musaliev, visited CHPP-2 to review the implementation of the pilot project aimed at securing the cybersecurity of energy infrastructure objects.

During the visit, participants were shown the operations of the Main Control Panel, Block Control Panel No. 2, and the station's server infrastructure, which supports the functioning of automated management systems for technological processes.

Special attention was paid to modern solutions in the protection of critical information infrastructure objects. Technologies were presented for passive monitoring of industrial networks, control over removable storage devices, and a comprehensive platform for centralized management of information security tools, incident detection, and the organization of secured privileged access.

Following the introductory part, a working meeting was held to discuss the results of the pilot project's implementation on ensuring the cybersecurity of automated control systems for technological processes, as well as the prospects for its further development and scaling to other energy sector objects.

Bakytzhan Ilyas noted that digital transformation in the energy sector is impossible without reliable protection of technological infrastructure. > "Today, cybersecurity is becoming an integral part of the sustainable operation of energy facilities. The implementation of modern solutions allows for the timely identification of potential threats, enhancing the resilience of automated control systems, and ensuring reliable energy supply for consumers," emphasized the Vice Minister of Energy.

In turn, Doszhan Musaliev highlighted the importance of interagency cooperation in implementing projects to protect critical information infrastructure and stressed the necessity of adopting modern domestic and international practices in cybersecurity.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness for further cooperation on the development of digital technologies and strengthening the cyber resilience of Kazakhstan's fuel and energy complex facilities, reports ЖКХ24 citing the Ministry of Energy's website.
