Public Consultations for Utility Consumers Held Nationwide
Public consultations on utility services were held nationwide in Kazakhstan, addressing tariffs and consumer rights with online participation.
Today, the Committee for the Regulation of Natural Monopolies of the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan conducted public consultations for consumers of utility services. Similar events were organized by the Committee's regional departments across the country.
These consultations were traditionally held online via Facebook, enabling open access for citizens to participate, ask questions, and receive real-time explanations from specialists.
During the event, Committee representatives addressed current issues related to tariff formation, changes in tariffs for regulated services, charges for utilities, and the review of applications in the water supply, heating, and gas supply sectors.
Specifically in the water supply and sanitation sector, it was noted that currently 477 natural monopoly entities provide regulated services, with 102 applications under review, including questions on tariff setting and implementation of investment programs.
In the electricity sector, approaches to tariff formation were explained, including the structure of the final price for consumers, as well as measures to prevent unreasonable tariff increases and ensure a balance of interests between consumers and market participants.
Information on the railway sector was also presented, where applications and reports from natural monopoly entities are reviewed, including tariff changes and the implementation of investment programs in accordance with legislative requirements.
Special attention was given to the National Project "Modernization of the Energy and Utilities Sector." Approaches to infrastructure renewal, reducing network wear, and improving the reliability of provided utility services were clarified.
Additionally, explanations regarding consumer rights protection and regulation mechanisms for the activities of natural monopolies were provided.
The Committee for the Regulation of Natural Monopolies will continue the practice of holding public consultations aimed at ensuring transparency and informing the public on key issues in regulated areas.
