Ministry of Energy Backs 253 Projects to Upgrade 11,700 km of Power Grids
The Ministry of Energy supports 253 projects to modernize 11,700 km of power grids, aiming to enhance energy efficiency and reduce wear and tear.

In Astana, the POWER TRENDS conference focused on the National Project MEKS and the Energy Sector Development Plan, where the Ministry of Energy supported 253 projects for the modernization of power grids.
A plenary session titled “National Project MEKS: From Applications to Real Objects” was held during the conference, attended by Vice Minister of Energy Yerzhan Yertayev. Nurlan Zhumagulov, Executive Director of the NGO 'Energy Monitor,' moderated the session.
The session also featured representatives from the Ministry of National Economy, the Ministry of Industry and Construction, the Committee for Regulation of Natural Monopolies, the Committee for Construction and Housing and Communal Services, National Investment Holding 'Baiterek' JSC, and the Kazakhstan Center for Housing and Communal Services Modernization and Development JSC.
The discussion covered the results of the implementation of the National Project "Modernization of the Energy and Communal Sectors" (MEKS), transitioning from procurement procedures to construction and assembly works, and preparing a portfolio of projects for 2027.
According to Yerzhan Yertayev, the National Project aims to modernize 1,600 km of heating networks and 77,000 km of electrical networks. By 2029, this program will reduce the average wear and tear of heating networks from 52% to 42%, and electrical networks from 74% to 45%.
The Ministry of Energy has supported 253 projects aimed at modernizing electrical networks, totaling 11,683 km in length. Out of these, 139 projects are at various stages of implementation, 40 are in the procurement stage, and 74 have been agreed upon. Four projects have already been completed at a cost of 4.3 billion tenge, modernizing 230 km of electrical networks.

By 2025, two projects to reconstruct 104.2 km of electrical networks will be realized in the Turkestan region and the city of Shymkent. Additionally, this year, the reconstruction of 131 km of electrical networks in Astana and the West Kazakhstan region was completed, reducing the wear and tear of electrical networks from 66% to 62%.
In the heating supply sector, a portfolio of 128 projects to reconstruct 356 km of heating networks has been formed, with 51 projects at various stages of implementation, 12 at the procurement stage, and 65 agreed upon. Sixteen projects, totaling 31.9 km, have been completed.
This year, work on main heating network reconstruction is underway in Karaganda, Temirtau, Petropavlovsk, Taldykorgan, and Uralsk, which has reduced the wear and tear of heating networks from 50% to 48%. This enhances the reliability of heating supply and reduces the risk of emergency situations.
The modernization of heating and electrical networks continues and is under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy.
