24 Investment Agreements to Provide 3.8 GW of Capacity in Kazakhstan's Energy Sector
Kazakhstan's Ministry of Energy discusses 24 investment agreements aimed at generating 3.8 GW in the energy sector, focusing on modernization and renewable energy.

Today, under the chairmanship of Zhakyup Khairushev, the Public Council on Fuel and Energy Complex Issues of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan discussed the modernization of existing energy facilities and the improvement of investment mechanisms in the electricity sector.
Participants of the meeting explored the prospects for the development of alternative energy and the organization of the annual Powerexpo Almaty forum as a crucial platform for discussing and monitoring industry reforms.
Special attention was given to investment agreement mechanisms aimed at the modernization, expansion, reconstruction, and renewal of energy facilities. The realization of 9 investment agreements has reached a capacity of 963 MW. Currently, 24 investment agreements with a total capacity of 3.8 GW are in the implementation phase.
The organizers also discussed the prospects of solar and wind generation, hydropower, and hydrogen energy. In the context of further integrating renewable energy sources (RES), issues related to the development of energy storage systems were examined.
By 2035, it is planned to introduce more than 8 GW of additional RES capacities. There is ongoing work to develop energy storage systems, distributed generation, and update the Hydrogen Energy Development Concept up to 2040.
Following the meeting, members of the Public Council presented their proposals on the discussed issues.
