4 Million Kazakhs Gain Access to Gas Over 6 Years

Kazakhstan continues its expansive initiative to enhance public access to natural gas. Over the past six years, the country's gasification level has risen from 51% to 64.2%. During this period, approximately 4 million Kazakhs have gained access to natural gas, increasing the number of residents supplied with gas from 9.1 million to 13.1 million.

More than 1,000 populated areas have been incorporated into the gas network over these years, with 20,000 km of gas distribution pipelines constructed.

This growth results from infrastructure projects aimed at developing gas transportation and distribution systems and connecting new populated areas.

In 2025 alone, over 354,000 residents in 94 settlements received natural gas. Approximately 2,000 km of gas distribution networks were built within the year.

The development of gas infrastructure continues in 2026. Forty projects are being implemented, including 7 ongoing and 33 new projects. As part of these ongoing projects, around 36,000 additional people are expected to gain access to natural gas this year.

The construction of the "Ishim – Astana" main gas pipeline is particularly significant for the gasification of northern regions. A memorandum on its implementation was signed between the Government of Kazakhstan and PJSC Gazprom. This project will ensure reliable gas supply to Astana, Kokshetau, and Petropavlovsk, as well as diversify natural gas supply routes to the northern regions of the country.

Further gasification expansion will occur in line with the President's directive to increase the population's access to natural gas to 80% by 2035.

Gasification remains a key focus in the development of the country's energy infrastructure. Increasing public access to natural gas enhances quality of life, fosters regional development, and strengthens Kazakhstan's energy security, reports ЖКХ24, citing the Ministry of Energy's website.
