Water Supply and Sewerage Systems Undergoing Upgrades in Oral and Karaganda

The cities of Oral and Karaganda are witnessing continued upgrades to their water supply and sewerage systems. As part of the National Project for the Modernization of the Energy and Utilities Sector, the technical operator is actively monitoring projects to ensure the actual completion of construction and installation works.

A key focus is on the expansion of Oral's underground water intake. By 2025, all five water intake wells prescribed by the project will be drilled. Currently, the water supply networks are 95% complete, with 2.8 km of water pipeline laid. The overall project readiness is at 77%.

Concurrently, the reconstruction of Sewage Pumping Station No. 1 (KNS-1) is underway. The station is currently seeing the installation of monolithic structures and reinforcement. The pump equipment has already been installed, and the facility's readiness stands at 37%.

At Sewage Pumping Station No. 29 (KNS-29), dismantling, preparation, and construction works are complete. Following reconstruction, the station will have a capacity of 14,736 cubic meters per day. Currently, the completion status is 35%.

Significant progress is also visible at Pumping Station No. 20 (PNS-20), where the power of the pumping equipment and the diameter of the water pipes are being increased from 300 mm to 500 mm. So far, 822 linear meters of polyethylene pipeline have been installed.

One of the more technically challenging phases was the crossings over the Chagan River and Revunok stream, accomplished through horizontal directional drilling. The total length of these crossings is 473.2 linear meters. In addition, the site features a newly installed transformer substation and necessary equipment. The reconstruction of drinking water reservoirs is 50% complete.

Modernization efforts are also ongoing in Karaganda. At the wastewater treatment facilities 'Reconstruction of BOC-2, 3,' works are focused on the insulation of production workshops, dismantling of existing concrete structures, sealing, and strengthening of facilities.

Monitoring indicates sustained progress in upgrading water pipelines, pumping stations, reservoirs, and other utility infrastructure in Oral and Karaganda. At the same time, new equipment is being installed, and existing facilities are being renovated.

Upon project completion, the reliability of water supply and sewerage systems is expected to improve. Final assessments on reducing wear and reducing accident rates will be made upon the conclusion of the work and the commissioning of the facilities.
