New Gas Meter Regulations to Be Implemented in Shymkent

Starting August 24, 2026, new regulations regarding gas metering devices will come into effect in Shymkent. Subscribers connecting to the gas supply for the first time must be equipped with smart meters featuring remote data transmission capabilities.

New consumers who receive their technical specifications after August 24, 2026, will also be required to install smart meters. Industrial and public utility consumers must replace their existing metering devices with those offering remote data transmission by December 31, 2027.

The remote data transmission feature enables automatic transmission of gas consumption readings, simplifying accounting and ensuring timely access to information.

Importantly, for existing residential consumers already connected to the gas network, the replacement of metering devices will be funded by the gas distribution organization before the new requirements take effect.

These new requirements are being introduced in compliance with current legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, reports ЖКХ24, citing the website of the Department of Energy and Infrastructure Development of the city of Shymkent.
