Three Renewable Energy Facilities Set to Launch in Zhestisu Region in 2023

The energy sector in the Zhestisu region continues its robust growth. Currently, the region's power complex has a capacity of 333 MW, with 271 MW, or over 80%, generated by renewable energy facilities. Over the next few years, substantial increases in generation are planned through new renewable energy projects, construction of high-voltage lines, and gas turbine power plants, reports the press service of the Zhestisu region's akim.

As of now, Zhestisu boasts 19 renewable energy facilities. The backbone comprises 15 hydroelectric power plants with a combined capacity of 147 MW. Additionally, there are 2 wind and 2 solar plants operating, with a total capacity of 124 MW.

According to the regional Department of Energy and Housing Utilities, by 2028, the region plans to implement another 10 projects in the renewable energy field with a total capacity of 191 MW. Major projects include the construction of the Pokatilovskoye reservoir and HPP in the Sarkand district, along with an HPP in the Kerbulak district.

"This year, we plan to commission three renewable energy facilities with a total capacity of 40.6 MW. These will include two hydroelectric power plants in the Kerbulak and Koksu districts, as well as a solar power plant in the Panfilov district," stated Aidos Beketayev, head of the regional Department of Energy and Housing Utilities.

Simultaneously, the region is strengthening its electrical grid infrastructure. Construction of 217.4 km of high-voltage power transmission lines with a voltage of 220 kV is planned in the "Taldykorgan - Zharkent" direction. The new line will enhance power supply reliability and create conditions for increased energy consumption and connection of new facilities.

Another strategy for ensuring stable electricity and heat supply is the phased commissioning of gas turbine stations in Tekeli and Taldykorgan, with a combined capacity of 137 MW.

A particular focus is on the long-term project to build a wind power station with a capacity of up to 1 GW in the Dzhungar Gate area, with construction planned to start next year.

The implementation of all these projects will not only create additional capacities and strengthen the region's energy resilience but also increase Zhestisu's contribution to the development of the country's "green" energy.
