Central water supply nearing completion in Lepso village, Zhetysu region, ending decades of reliance on wells and boreholes.

In the Zhetysu region, water is being supplied to villages where there was no central water supply. Residents of Lepso in the Alakol district had been using wells or digging boreholes on their properties until now. Today, this long-standing problem is close to being resolved, as the installation of the central water supply system in the village is nearing completion, reports the press service of the akim of the Zhetysu region.
According to the regional department of energy and housing and communal services, a project for the reconstruction and construction of a water supply system in the village of Lepso will be implemented starting in 2025, which will provide the population with quality and uninterrupted water supply.
As reported by the deputy director of the contracting organization involved in the project, Dauren Junisov, about 50 specialists and 8 units of equipment are engaged. The main volume of work has already been completed: out of the 708 water supply wells planned in the project, 628 have been installed, and 35 kilometers of main water supply pipeline have been laid.
In addition, two water intake boreholes have been drilled to a depth of 226 meters, a clean water reservoir has been built, and a pumping station building has been constructed. The equipment has already been connected to the electricity supply, and the construction of the base's fencing and all auxiliary structures has been completed.
The climate here is quite unique: cold weather sets in early, while warm weather arrives late. Therefore, most of the work must be completed in a short period – from May to September. Meanwhile, the installation of subscriber networks is ongoing. Of the planned 15 kilometers of distribution lines, 7 kilometers have already been laid. In total, the project provides for the connection of 420 residential houses. Currently, pipelines have been connected to 210 households, and about 70 residents are already connected to the new water supply system. Special attention is also paid to safety issues. To ensure fire protection, the installation of 135 fire hydrants is planned, of which 100 have already been installed. In general, it is expected that all construction and installation work will be completed and the facility will be commissioned in the fall, he reported.

For the villagers, this project is much more than a large construction project. It is an event that they have been waiting for decades. Chairperson of the village's Council of Public Accord, Irina Abdukhalikova, shares her thoughts: "I was born and raised here. As long as I can remember, we have always dreamed of centralized drinking water. And finally, we have waited. Our village is promising: tourism is actively developing, there are sports facilities, and wonderful nature. Therefore, water has always been a matter of primary importance. One part of the village used the old water pipeline from the 1980s, where water flows by gravity, while others had to carry water in buckets almost from the other end of the village. Now we will have water in every house, and we are very happy about it," she says.
By the way, currently in the Zhetysu region, 93% or 329 populated areas are provided with clean drinking water.
It is worth noting that the average repair of the regional significance road Kabambay – Lepso is nearing completion in the Alakol district. The repair covers the section from the 20th to the 40th kilometer, with a total length of 20 km. It is planned to complete all work and open the updated section of the road for operation by the end of July.
The measures taken to improve the quality of road infrastructure will not only enhance transport connectivity between populated areas but will also make tourist routes in the district more accessible.
Recall that last year, the village of Lepso was among the top five best tourist villages in the country based on the national competition "Best Tourist Village - 2025." The project aims to develop sustainable tourism, identify and promote rural areas with unique natural landscapes, culture, traditions, and crafts.
