Water Supply Center Opens in Nauryzbay District of Almaty

In the Nauryzbay district of Almaty, journalists were introduced to a key infrastructure project—the construction of a water intake facility and water treatment station on the Aksay River—during a press tour organized by the Regional Communication Service. The district mayor, Nazira Togizbayeva, provided details on the project's progress.

This project is of strategic importance for one of the fastest-growing districts of the metropolis. Once operational, it will provide residents of Nauryzbay district with stable and high-quality water supply and enhance the reliability of the city's engineering infrastructure.

As of today, the construction is 98% complete. Nearly all major buildings and structures are finished, technological equipment is installed, and technical launch has been conducted.

"As you know, one of the most serious issues in the Nauryzbay district is water scarcity. The district is rapidly developing: new housing is being built, infrastructure is advancing, and the population is growing, putting existing networks under increasing strain. Today, we have good news. The Aksay filtration station has been constructed, which will provide over 100,000 residents of Nauryzbay district in Almaty and Karasai district of Almaty region with quality water supply," noted the district mayor.

During the visit, journalists were shown the water treatment station, where construction of the radial and horizontal settlers, clean water reservoirs each with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters, and the water treatment block is fully completed. Internal finishing of the administrative-laboratory building is nearing completion.

The linear objects of the project are also entirely ready. A trunk water pipeline stretching 5.9 kilometers has been constructed, and the building of five automobile bridges and off-site gas supply networks has finished.

Special attention has been given to modern water purification equipment. The water purification system by "VodEkoFilter" has already been delivered and is being installed.

Specialists reported that tests were conducted on the system jointly with the GKP on PHV "Almaty Su". Water intake from the Aksay River through project sluices, followed by delivery via the trunk water pipeline, has been executed. After filling the technological reservoirs and water treatment facilities, a control disinfection was conducted.

Laboratory tests confirmed that the water quality meets all established sanitary and technical standards.

Currently, the final stage of the project—commissioning works—is underway. These procedures are mandatory for the official commissioning of the facility and allow for the testing of all engineering systems in real-world conditions.

According to project representatives, the full launch of the new water intake facility and water treatment station is planned for late August 2026.

"The construction of the facility is now fully complete. Commissioning works are ongoing, and despite this, water is already being supplied to the public. As of today, the station's capacity is approximately 300 cubic meters of water per hour. All buildings and structures are fully built, equipment is installed, service premises are fitted out, and the landscaping is complete. In the next few days, commissioning will finish, and the final equipment setup will be done, allowing the station to enter full operational mode," explained project construction manager Gairadzhan Turdiev.

District mayor Nazira Togizbayeva noted that the facility's launch will be a significant step in the development of the district's engineering infrastructure, ensuring high-quality drinking water for the growing population for many years to come. The new complex will significantly enhance the water supply system's resilience and create additional capacity reserves for the further development of Nauryzbay district.
