Kazakhstan to Modernize 8,000 km of Water Networks
Kazakhstan initiates a project to modernize 8,000 km of water networks, improving utility infrastructure and service quality by 2029.

Kazakhstan has launched the National Project 'Modernization of the Energy and Utility Sector,' aimed at comprehensively upgrading utility infrastructure and enhancing service quality.
A primary focus of this project is the modernization of water supply and sanitation systems. The initiative plans the reconstruction and construction of utility networks, pump stations, water intake, and purification facilities, alongside the implementation of modern accounting and automation systems.
Under the Ministry's guidance, approximately 8,000 km of water supply and sanitation networks are expected to be renewed by 2029. The preliminary total cost of the projects is around 1 trillion tenge.
From this amount, the modernization of approximately 5,000 km of water supply networks is planned, costing around 0.7 trillion tenge, and 2,800 km of sanitation networks is estimated to cost about 0.4 trillion tenge.
Project implementation is underway in various regions. In Oral, as part of ongoing monitoring, work is being done to expand underground water intake, and to reconstruct sewer and booster pump stations. In the project to construct five water collection wells, all wells have been drilled, with water networks laid out 95%, covering a total length of 2.8 km, with the project 77% complete. At PS-20, 822 linear meters of pipeline have been installed, with two river crossings over the Chagan and Revunok totaling 473.2 linear meters completed. The reconstruction of drinking water reservoirs is 50% complete.

By the end of the year, the National Project plans to modernize approximately 1,900 km of water supply and sanitation networks.
Special attention is given to the modernization of sewage treatment plants: the National Project aims to implement 45 STP projects with a total cost of about 0.8 trillion tenge.
These measures are expected to reduce the wear and tear of engineering networks to 40% by 2029, improve the reliability and continuity of water supply and sanitation systems, as well as reduce accidents and technological losses.
Thus, the measures of the National Project ensure the gradual renewal of utility infrastructure, creating conditions to improve the quality and reliability of water supply and sanitation services for the population.
