Astana Electrician Highlights the Importance of Energy Workers' Contributions

In Kazakhstan, Labor Day is celebrated on the last Sunday of September to acknowledge the significance of creative work, professionalism, and responsibility of workers in various sectors for the country's development. Ahead of this holiday, Altynbek Baykuatov, an electrician at CHPP-2 of Astana-Energiya JSC, shared insights into his profession and the daily efforts of the capital's energy workers, reports the official city administration website.

Altynbek Baykuatov hails from the Aktobe region. He graduated from the Saken Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical University in Astana with a degree in Agricultural Machinery and Technology. After university, he decided to pursue a career in the energy sector.

"The education I received offered various career paths, but I chose to dedicate my career to energy. I started working in Almaty for two years and now continue at CHPP-2 in Astana. I have been in the energy sector for over five years," Altynbek Baykuatov said.

His current specialization focuses on repairing insulation and windings of electrical equipment. This work requires precision, technical knowledge, and practical experience, as the quality of repairs affects the future operation of complex equipment.

Among the most critical tasks Altynbek Baykuatov has been involved in was repairing the winding damage of turbogenerator No. 4 in 2024. Following the repairs, the equipment was promptly returned to operation.

The electrician also engages in diagnosing and restoring windings of power transformers with voltages of 110–220 kV and repairing reactors and turbogenerators.

According to him, the CHPP equipment must be ready for operation year-round. Timely maintenance becomes particularly crucial before the heating season begins, as the load on the capital's energy system increases.

"The power supply system must be consistently ready, both in winter and summer. Equipment wears out over time, so it must be serviced and updated in a timely manner. There should also be a reliable reserve at the facilities," he explained.

However, much of the energy workers' efforts remain unnoticed by the city's residents. As long as the equipment functions correctly, few people consider the specialists maintaining its reliability daily.

"Many residents don't think about the fact that the heat and light in their homes result from our continuous work. We serve Astana and its residents," the electrician emphasized.

For Altynbek Baykuatov, his occupation continues a family tradition. His father and grandfather also earned their living through manual labor. The electrician believes that experience, craftsmanship, and the responsibility of a qualified specialist will retain their value even as modern technologies progress.

"I am genuinely proud of my profession. People in production have truly strong characters. I am convinced that no automation or artificial intelligence will replace a work specialist with practical skills. It's encouraging that the value of human labor is rising again lately," he shared his thoughts.

In the future, Altynbek Baykuatov hopes to apply his accumulated experience in a new direction.

"When the construction of a nuclear power plant begins in Kazakhstan, I would like to contribute to the development of domestic nuclear energy," the specialist concluded.
