Almaty to Increase Traffic Patrols and Manual Traffic Control Near Schools on September 1

At the start of the school year in Almaty, security measures around schools will be increased. On September 1, approximately 700 police officers and more than 130 patrol units will be deployed to maintain order and regulate traffic.

During peak hours, officers will manually control traffic flow at the busiest points and assist children in crossing the road safely. Timur Nogaybayev, head of the Public Safety Department of Almaty Police, explained these measures taken by the city to address increased traffic load during a briefing at the Regional Communication Service.

With the beginning of the school year, traffic intensity traditionally increases around educational institutions due to the rise in the number of parents, students, and residents resuming their work schedules after the summer break. Roadworks in certain areas of the city further complicate the situation.

In response, the police will switch to heightened operations around schools in the first days of September. Stationary posts, mobile patrols, and manual traffic control will be utilized. "Police officers, who are well acquainted with their territories, are assigned to public schools. Their work will be intensified in the first days of September," noted Timur Nogaybayev.

The police are also monitoring road infrastructure conditions. Ahead of the school year, inspections of pedestrian crossings, signs, markings, and lighting have been conducted. Identified deficiencies are being addressed by the relevant services.

Special attention is being given to school bus safety. Preventive inspections and technical checks are carried out before the school year begins.

The police emphasize the importance of proper adult behavior, as children tend to imitate their parents. Drivers are also urged to avoid improper parking near schools to ensure clear visibility for pedestrians.

Due to the shortening of daylight in the fall, parents are encouraged to use reflective elements on their children's clothing and backpacks. Monitoring of electric scooters and bicycles will also be increased during morning and evening hours.

Police urge adults to discuss safe routes with children and strictly adhere to traffic rules. Given the anticipated high traffic volume on September 1, it is recommended to plan routes in advance and use public transport whenever possible.

Timur Nogaybayev mentioned that if even one in five families refrains from using their personal vehicles, it would significantly reduce the number of vehicles on Almaty's roads during morning hours.
