Electricity Generation in Kazakhstan Reaches 63.4 Billion kWh in the First Half of the Year
Kazakhstan's electricity generation reached 63.4 billion kWh in H1, exceeding the 2025 target, according to Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov.
Electricity generation in Kazakhstan reached 63.4 billion kWh in the first half of the year. The country witnessed growth in the energy sector, with an increase in generation, including from renewable sources. This was reported by the Minister of Energy, Yerlan Akkenzhenov, during a Government session.
"In six months, 63.4 billion kWh of electricity was generated, accounting for 101.9% compared to the 2025 target. The forecast for 2026 is 126.5 billion kWh. To reduce the electricity deficit this year, we plan to introduce approximately 2.66 GW of energy capacity. This includes modernization projects for Almaty CHP-2 and CHP-3, the construction of a combined cycle power plant in Turkestan region, commissioning of turbine generator No. 11 and installation of boiler No. 15 at Atyrau CHP, commissioning of three waste heat recovery boilers and a steam turbine with a generator at the Tekeli Energy Complex, along with renewable energy facilities totaling 245.8 MW," stated the minister.
He also noted that to date, the combined cycle power plant in Kyzylorda region (240 MW) and seven renewable energy projects (212.6 MW) have already been put into operation. Electricity generation from renewable energy facilities increased by 21.2% to 5.1 billion kWh.
