Ala-Kol Development in Zhetisu: Treatment Facilities to Be Implemented Before Bathing Season

Tourism is one of the key economic sectors in Zhetisu. The region attracts over 2 million tourists annually. Consequently, developing the essential infrastructure for a comfortable stay is systematically undertaken, particularly along the shores of Lake Ala-Kol. By the end of the next year, construction of a shore protection dam will be completed, and wastewater treatment facilities will be operational before the bathing season starts, addressing two critical needs for the area's development. This was announced by the Akim of the region, Beibit Isabayev, during a meeting with the residents of Ala-Kol district, as reported by the press service of the Akim of Zhetisu region.

It was noted that a project to construct treatment facilities on the shores of Ala-Kol is being implemented. Currently, the project is 70% complete. This will ensure the centralized collection and treatment of sewage water along the shore, preventing environmental and water resource pollution, and setting the stage for further development of the region's tourism infrastructure.

  • This is one of the country's largest projects in terms of capacity, built with the anticipation of future growth in resort areas. The facility will treat 6,500 cubic meters of water per day, which can be reused as technical water, Beibit Isabayev remarked.

In addition, design and cost documentation has been developed for the construction of a sewage system in the village of Koktuma, covering the Ala-Kol district's recreation area. The project includes the construction of 72 km of drainage networks and 3 sewer pumping stations, projected for completion in 2027.

Since last year, construction of a shore protection dam at Lake Ala-Kol has been underway. The project covers 13 km of the lake's shoreline. To date, 1.9 km of work has been completed in the village of Akshi and 1.9 km out of 3.5 km in the village of Koktuma. The work is expected to be finished by the end of next year.

Additionally, to enhance the shoreline infrastructure, a new substation "Akshi – Beskol" has been built, with plans to construct the "Aktogay – Koktuma" line.

To maintain cleanliness along the shorelines, municipal enterprises "Alakol Tazalyk" and "Balkhash Tazalyk" have been established. As a result, the lake's shoreline maintenance has been well organized this year.
