Water Supply Network Construction in Almaty's Tau Samaly Nears Completion

In the Tau Samaly neighborhood of Almaty's Medeu district, the construction of water supply and sewage networks spanning a total of 80.3 kilometers continues. The project aims to provide centralized water supply to around 6,500 residents.

The installation of the main pipelines has been fully completed as of now. Current efforts are focused on subscriber connections and the restoration of asphalt surfaces.

The construction and installation work, including road surface restoration, is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year. In the Medeu district, similar projects have been executed for the construction and development of water supply and sewage networks in the Gorny Gigant, Malaya Stanitsa, and Atyrau neighborhoods. In Gorny Gigant, 38.1 kilometers of networks have been laid to serve 4,200 residents, while Malaya Stanitsa has seen 21.4 kilometers of networks for 4,200 residents, and Atyrau has 29.6 kilometers of networks for 3,100 residents. Construction work continues in Tau Samaly, where 80.3 kilometers of engineering networks are planned.

The total length of the engineering networks across the four projects amounts to 169.4 kilometers, including 78.4 kilometers of water supply networks and 91 kilometers of sewage networks. These projects will ultimately provide engineering infrastructure to approximately 18,000 residents in the Medeu district.

Plans to Introduce New Energy Capacities Unveiled at Powerexpo Almaty 2026

At Powerexpo Almaty 2026, plans for new energy capacities in Kazakhstan were unveiled to address rising electricity demand and enhance energy infrastructure.

Plans to Introduce New Energy Capacities Unveiled at Powerexpo Almaty 2026

On October 21-22, 2026, the international energy forum Powerexpo Almaty 2026 takes place in Almaty. The central theme of the event is the development of Kazakhstan's energy infrastructure in response to rising electricity demand, modernization of existing capacities, construction of new energy sources, and proactive development of electrical networks.

Vice Minister of Energy Yerzhan Ertayev participated in the forum, presenting the main directions for the development of the electricity sector and plans for introducing new generating capacities.

As of today, Kazakhstan's energy system includes 254 energy sources, with 172 being renewable energy sites. In 2025, electricity generation reached a historic peak of 123.1 billion kWh. In 2026, an increase in generation to 126.5 billion kWh is forecasted.

To meet the growing electricity demand, the Ministry of Energy is implementing the Energy Sector Development Plan until 2035, which envisions the introduction of approximately 26.3 GW of new and upgraded capacities. Concurrently, efforts are underway to establish legal and economic frameworks for the operation of energy storage systems, allowing for enhanced flexibility of the energy system and broader integration of renewable energy sources.

From 2027, the introduction of new capacities is expected to meet the economy's electricity needs, eventually leading to a surplus. By the end of 2029, 13.3 GW of new capacities are planned to be introduced. This will cater to the energy requirements of both the economy and the population and create a reserve of generating capacities.

Special attention is given to the implementation of the National Project 'Coal Generation Development', which envisages the introduction and updating of capacities totaling 7.8 GW. Within the project, eight new facilities with a total capacity of 5.3 GW are planned for construction, alongside the modernization, expansion, and technical re-equipment of eleven existing energy sources with a capacity of 2.5 GW.
