Fire Safety Inspections in Astana Ahead of Heating Season

In preparation for the upcoming heating season, the Department of Emergency Situations in the capital, alongside police, local executive bodies, social services, and volunteers, is conducting fire safety inspections across six districts in Astana.

These inspections are part of the first phase of a fire safety awareness month, ahead of the 2026-2027 heating period. The main objective is to prevent fires in residential areas by explaining the essential fire safety requirements.

Special attention is given to the proper use of heating stoves and chimneys, as well as the installation of carbon monoxide detectors in homes occupied by socially vulnerable groups.

"It's crucial to start preparing for the heating season now: clean your stoves and chimneys, inspect them for cracks and other damages, and address any issues promptly. It is also necessary to check electrical networks. Together with social services, we are installing carbon monoxide detectors in the homes of socially vulnerable residents," stated Omirzhan Tukushev, Deputy Head of the Astana Department of Emergency Situations.

Representatives from the Department of Emergency Situations, district units, and the police are working at pre-determined addresses. They plan to cover up to 50 houses in each district.

"Before the heating season starts, residents using solid fuel stoves need to clean their chimneys and ensure the stoves are intact without cracks or damages. Those with gas equipment should have it serviced by specialized organizations. Specialists should check the condition of chimneys, burners, and the equipment itself," noted a Department of Emergency Situations representative.

Experts are also focusing on the state of electrical wiring. In apartment buildings, residents are advised to avoid overloading electrical networks and not to connect too many appliances at once that exceed the load capacity.

Moreover, rescue workers remind parents not to leave young children unattended.

Preventive work in residential areas will continue throughout the month.
