Fire Safety Month Kicks Off in Astana

Astana has launched an extensive preventive campaign by the city's Department of Emergency Situations, aimed at protecting private residential areas from fires as the cold season approaches, reports the official website of the city administration.

Rescue teams are determined to minimize fire risks and prevent fatalities and injuries among citizens during the autumn-winter period.

As part of the first phase of the fire safety month, DES staff are conducting daily door-to-door visits. The main focus is on explaining the rules for operating heating equipment, gas appliances, and electrical networks. Specialists remind residents of the need for timely preparation of stoves for winter, checking wiring, and the absolute prohibition on leaving children unattended.

The rescue services place special emphasis on supporting socially vulnerable groups. In collaboration with city organizations, the DES installs free autonomous fire alarms, carbon monoxide, and natural gas detectors in their homes and assists in cleaning chimneys from accumulated soot.

"We are currently conducting the first phase of the fire safety month. Our main goal is to prevent fires, fatalities, and carbon monoxide poisoning during the heating period. To achieve this, DES staff conduct daily patrols in residential areas, explaining basic safety requirements: stove readiness, electrical network inspections, and the inadmissibility of leaving children unattended," stated Deputy Head of Astana's DES, Colonel of Civil Protection Omirzhan Tukushev.
