Preparation for the Heating Season in Astana: Chimneys Cleaned and Smoke Detectors Installed

In the Sarayshyq district of Astana, a special operation was conducted to ensure fire safety as part of preparations for the heating season. The event was organized by the district akimat in collaboration with the Department of Emergency Situations.

During the operation, chimneys in residential buildings were cleaned and smoke detectors were installed. Islam Ibraim, head of the life support department of Sarayshyq district akimat, noted that 43 homes with stove heating are registered. Assistance is currently being provided to nine houses inhabited by socially vulnerable groups, where there is potential danger. "Since the beginning of the year, around 30 homes have been equipped with automatic smoke detectors. By the end of the year, it is planned to install 150 of these devices. Today, we carried out these works on Baisheshek and Kapal streets," he stated.

Experts emphasize the importance of cleaning chimneys during the summer-autumn period to prevent smoke from entering the house during the heating season, which can threaten the lives and health of residents. "During the heating season, it’s also essential to monitor the condition of the stoves themselves. A protective metal sheet, measuring 70 cm in length and 40 cm in width, should be placed in front of the firebox opening. There should be no cracks in the brick masonry of the stove. Flammable substances should not be stored near it, nor should firewood and shoes be dried. The use of flammable liquids to ignite the fire is strictly prohibited as it can lead to severe burns. Most fires occur due to the neglect of such simple safety measures," added Baglan Nurbaev, senior lieutenant of civil protection with the Department of Emergency Situations of the Sarayshyq district.
