Turksib District in Almaty undergoes significant upgrades to water and sewer networks, enhancing infrastructure and socio-economic growth.

Upgrade of Water and Sewer Networks in Turksib District, Almaty

The Turksib district of Almaty is witnessing a major upgrade of its engineering and road infrastructure. This year, construction and installation works were completed for 192.4 km of water supply networks, 89.1 km of sewage networks, and five sewage pumping stations. District mayor Damir Akezhanov detailed these projects at a press conference hosted by the Regional Communications Service.

Over the first nine months of 2026, the district showed growth across key socio-economic sectors. Industrial output increased by 41.9%, reaching 221.6 billion tenge. Investments in fixed assets grew by 10%, totaling 209.5 billion tenge. Construction works increased by 23.3% (65.5 billion tenge). Retail trade reached 481.7 billion tenge, up by 1.6%, and tax revenues rose by 15% (212.9 billion tenge).

These increasing figures are attributed to active construction, the expansion of engineering and road infrastructure, the launch of new multi-apartment residential buildings, the development of small and medium-sized businesses, and the beautification of the district's areas.

Ensuring water supply and sewage services remains a priority. Currently, three projects are underway: network construction within the streets of Akan Sery, Sholokhov, and Seifullin; laying networks in unserved areas of the Nurshashkan neighborhood; and works within the streets of Ryskulov, Zhansugurov, Seifullin, and Sholokhov.

In the future, two more projects are planned. The first involves constructing networks for multi-apartment buildings in the Kayrat neighborhood as part of the 'Eastern Gate' project. The second involves developing network projects within the streets of Suyunbai, Ryskulov, Shemyakin, and Bekmahanov, as well as in the SMU settlement and Krasnogorskaya Street.

"Implementing these projects will provide district residents with quality water supply and sewage services. Collectively, these measures will greatly enhance power reliability, improve street lighting quality, ensure resident safety, and create a more comfortable urban environment. The district will become noticeably brighter, more modern, and safer at night," stated Damir Akezhanov.

Simultaneously, the modernization of electrical networks in the Nurshashkan neighborhood is ongoing. Project and cost documentation are being developed for power supply to homes on Suyunbai Avenue and the construction of a 110 kV substation network under the 'Eastern Gate' project.

Since the beginning of the year, lighting has been provided to 30 partially unlit streets. Over 2,000 poles have been painted, and 750 lamps in Zheltoksan Park and the Shugyla and Seifullin squares have been replaced. Additionally, 45.4 km of cable has been restored, 625 poles set up, and 83 outdoor lighting control cabinets have been repaired.

Significant work is also underway in the heating sector. In August, the reconstruction of a boiler house on Staroelelator Street was completed. In the Kayrat neighborhood, 4.3 km of gas main networks for multi-apartment buildings of the 'Eastern Gate' project are being constructed.

On two sections, 8.1 km of heating networks are being reconstructed: from Namanganskaya to Montazhnaya, extending 4.6 km, and from Seifullin to Kotelnikov, stretching 3.5 km. In September, reconstruction of the "Zhuldyz" boiler house began. The development of project and cost documentation for the renovation of seven district boiler houses, including school No. 84 and those on the streets of Stankevich, Bekmahanov, Dunentaev, Volochaevskaya, and Tashtitova is nearing completion.

A separate project is underway to reconstruct a boiler house with a capacity of 190 Gcal as part of the 'Eastern Gate' project. "In August of the current year, the reconstruction of the boiler house on Staroelelator Street was completed. In September of this year, the reconstruction of the 'Zhuldyz' boiler house began. These works will ensure stable heating system operations, increase their efficiency and resilience to loads, and create reliable and timely heating supply conditions for residents during the heating season," noted the district mayor.

Road infrastructure remains a priority. During the reporting period, the construction of 2 km of technical sidewalks on two main streets was completed, and 200 floating manholes were installed.

Currently, the medium repair of 13.2 km of roads on 12 streets, patching of 30,000 square meters of asphalt, and construction of 8.6 km of sidewalks on nine streets are being finalized. The extension of Khmelnitsky Street from the Kayrat neighborhood to the Talgar route, stretching 4.3 km, is ongoing. For the project implementation, 94 out of 101 land plots have been purchased, and work continues on the remaining seven plots.
