New Gas Processing Capacities to be Commissioned in Kazakhstan by 2030

New gas processing capacities will be commissioned in Kazakhstan by 2030, allowing a 29.6% increase in commercial gas production for domestic consumption. This announcement was made by Minister of Energy Yerlan Akkenshenov during a Government meeting.

"The growth will be achieved by commissioning processing capacities at Kashagan and Karachaganak, which will expand infrastructure and ensure stable gas supply to regions. Additional volumes of commercial gas from 2027 to 2030 are estimated at 1.6 billion m3, reaching 2.3 billion m3 in 2031, and 6.6 billion m3 by 2032," the minister stated.

One of the priority tasks, according to Yerlan Akkenshenov, remains the timely commissioning of infrastructure facilities. The 'Taldykorgan – Ucharal' trunk gas pipeline is expected to be operational by October 2025. Additionally, the construction of the linear section of the first stage of the 'Beineu-Bozoi-Shymkent' pipeline's second phase is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year, with the second phase planned for 2029, which will increase capacity to 15 billion m3 of commercial gas per year.

"In 2027, the Kashagan gas processing plant (GPP) with a capacity of 1 billion m3/year and the KazGPP in Zhanaozen with a capacity of 0.9 billion m3/year are expected to be operational. By 2030, a GPP at Kashagan with a capacity of 2.5 billion m3/year and a GPP at Karachaganak with a capacity of 5 billion m3/year are planned. These projects will enhance gas processing, expand gas transport infrastructure, and ensure sustainable gas supply to regions," the minister emphasized.
