Mayor of Almaty Orders Action Against Contractors on Improvement Projects
Mayor Darkhan Satylbaldy criticizes contractors for poor organization of street improvement projects in Almaty and emphasizes the need for accountability.

Mayor Darkhan Satylbaldy of Almaty led a meeting on the implementation of street improvement projects and the development of public spaces. The meeting emphasized the organization of work, adherence to deadlines, safety requirements, and the quality of project execution.
This year, major street and waterfront improvements, the creation of new public spaces, residential building facade repairs, and greening of areas are being undertaken in Almaty.
According to Darkhan Satylbaldy, residents understand the necessity of renewing the city's infrastructure. However, he pointed out several issues regarding the organization of construction processes.
"The organization of work raises concerns among people: constant dust, noise at night, and the lack of safe walkways at construction sites. While individual incidents can be understood, we see that these are systematic violations. This indicates improper organization of work," said the mayor of Almaty.
Darkhan Satylbaldy specifically addressed incidents of tree damage during improvement projects.
"For instance, the roots of existing green spaces are damaged during the replacement of aqueduct trays and installation of irrigation systems. Such occurrences are unacceptable," stressed the mayor of Almaty.

The mayor instructed the urban planning control department to check the quality and timeliness of work, compliance with safety standards, and the organization of construction processes. Particular attention should be paid to comprehensive street improvement projects following the 'facade to facade' principle.
Additionally, "Eco Almaty" LLP and police will take administrative measures in case of violations of improvement regulations related to dust, construction debris, and damage to green spaces.
"Contractors must be held accountable for the quality and organization of work. Improvement projects should enhance the urban environment rather than create additional problems for residents and harm existing infrastructure and green spaces. Departments must respond to people's complaints with concrete actions, not just formal responses," noted the mayor of Almaty.
