Vice Minister of Energy Visits West Kazakhstan Region to Discuss Gas Supply and Infrastructure Projects
Vice Minister of Energy Yerlan Akbarov discusses gas supply projects and infrastructure development in West Kazakhstan, emphasizing modernization efforts and local energy needs.

Vice Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, Yerlan Akbarov, visited the West Kazakhstan Region as part of a working trip where he met with local residents. He presented projects focused on the development of gas supply, modernization of heating networks, and the creation of new gas processing facilities at the Karachaganak field.
The West Kazakhstan Region is among the most gasified areas in the country. As of early 2026, 99.7% of the population, which is over 694,000 people across 372 settlements, have access to natural gas. Despite this, efforts to expand the region's gas infrastructure continue.
In 2026, the state budget has earmarked 1.2 billion tenge for the continuation of the construction of the first phase of the Rostoshi — Taipak gas pipeline, aimed at supplying gas to communities in the Akzhaik, Terekti districts, and the Baiterek area. An additional 3 billion tenge from the Infrastructure Development Fund has been allocated for four projects related to the region's gas and related infrastructure.
"Even with a high level of regional gasification, infrastructure development remains crucial. Reliable gas supply and home heating are important for residents, and predictability is essential for businesses. Therefore, updating networks and advancing gas processing are key priorities for the ministry in this region," said Yerlan Akbarov, Vice Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, in a statement.
The report also highlighted the renewal of the heating system in Uralsk. This year, 1.5 billion tenge from the state budget has been allocated to continue the reconstruction of Main Heat Pipeline TM-2. Previously, funds for the initial phase of this project were allocated from the Government's reserve. Additionally, the draft state budget for 2027–2029 includes more than 1.2 billion tenge to start the reconstruction of heating networks from Boiler House No.1 in the Zhaqagyzkajy settlement. These projects aim to enhance the reliability of heat supply to residential buildings and social facilities.
One of the major projects for the development of the region's oil and gas complex is the gas processing plant at Karachaganak, designed to handle 5 billion cubic meters of raw gas annually. Design and preparation for construction are currently underway, with early earthworks set to commence in 2027, and the plant expected to begin operations in 2031. The new capacities are expected to boost the production of commercial gas for the domestic market.

Meanwhile, commissioning work on the sixth gas reinjection compressor at the field, intended to maintain production levels, is ongoing. The equipment is operating in a test mode, with industrial operations set to begin in November 2026.
The Vice Minister also addressed the supply of petroleum products to the region and fuel distribution to agrarians. For the autumn fieldwork, 11,200 tons of diesel fuel have been allocated for the region. As of report preparation, 7,700 tons have been shipped. Supply to agricultural producers is prioritized based on submitted requests.
Following his meeting with the public, Yerlan Akbarov held a personal reception for citizens. Residents raised issues regarding reliable power supply to rural areas, gasification of specific sections, and tariff regulations. All received inquiries have been taken under control for further handling by the Ministry of Energy's relevant departments.
During the working trip, the Vice Minister explored the region's industrial potential by visiting production sites of JSC "Uralskagroremmash," LLP "Engineering Company West Oil," and JSC "West Kazakhstan Machine Building Company" (WKMBC). He inspected technological lines for producing oil and gas sector equipment and discussed with enterprise leaders the issues of localizing production and expanding domestic factories' participation in major operators' procurements.
The development of gas supply, modernization of thermal infrastructure, support for the domestic machinery sector, and increased gas processing remain the primary focus areas for the Ministry of Energy in the West Kazakhstan Region. These projects aim to enhance the reliability of energy supply to residents and meet the region's economic demands.
