Kazakhstan to Introduce 845 MW of New Energy Capacity by 2027

The Ministry of Energy is actively working to ensure reliable and uninterrupted energy supply across the country, augment generation capacity, and establish the necessary electricity reserves.

By 2027, Kazakhstan plans to introduce 845 MW of new energy capacity. This includes the commissioning of five gas turbine units at the Zhambyl State District Power Plant with a total capacity of 210 MW, a 160 MW combined-cycle unit at LLP "MAEK," the first stage of LLP "Baskuat Energoprom" project with five gas-piston units totaling 34.7 MW, and a 70 MW combined-cycle unit at LLP "Kazakhmys Energy."

Additionally, projects involving renewable energy sources (RES) with a capacity of 570 MW are slated for completion. Among them are a solar power plant (SPP) in the Almaty Region with a capacity of 100 MW, three SPPs in the Kyzylorda Region totaling 70 MW, two wind power plants (WPPs) in the Aktobe Region each with a capacity of 100 MW, one WPP in the Kyzylorda Region with a capacity of 50 MW, a WPP in the Turkestan Region with a capacity of 50 MW, and two WPPs in the Abay Region with a total capacity of 100 MW.

The introduction of these new capacities will allow the country's energy demands to be met by the first quarter of 2027. By the end of 2027, an energy surplus of approximately 1.3 billion kWh is anticipated.

It is worth noting that by 2026, around 2.6 GW of new energy capacity is expected to be introduced in Kazakhstan. This includes the commissioning of four gas power plants, the expansion of two existing power plants, and the development of ten new renewable energy facilities.
