For the same 12 cubes of water a family in Karaganda pays four times more than in Kyzylorda
ZhKH 24 analysts compared tariffs across 20 cities: for the same 12 cubes of water a family pays 5,063 ₸ in Karaganda and 1,153 in Kyzylorda — a 4.4-fold gap for the same service.
The spread in water and wastewater tariffs between cities of Kazakhstan reaches almost fivefold, the ZhKH 24 analytics desk has calculated. A family of three using 12 cubic metres a month pays for water and sewerage together from 1,153 tenge in Kyzylorda to 5,063 in Karaganda — a 4.4-fold difference for the same service.
Water and wastewater are most expensive in Karaganda, Aktau (3,696 tenge) and Aktobe (3,628), and cheapest in Kyzylorda, Zhezkazgan (1,293) and Turkistan (1,446). The reasons, according to the analysts, lie not in family behaviour but in how water supply is arranged: in Karaganda water is pumped dozens of kilometres from the Satpayev Canal, in Aktau the seawater of the Caspian is desalinated, and Kyzylorda's low tariffs are largely explained by the fact that the order behind them has been frozen since 2023.
