New Solar Power Plant Launches in Jetisu: Number of Renewable Energy Facilities Reaches 20

A new solar power plant with a capacity of 20 MW has been inaugurated in Jetisu, raising the total number of renewable energy facilities in the region to 20. The power plant will supply electricity to Zharkent and surrounding localities. This significant event took place shortly before Republic Day, highlighting the project's importance.

The "Zharkent-2" solar power plant is located in the Panfilov district. This major investment project, costing 5.8 billion tenge, aims to increase the region's energy independence, reduce environmental impact, and provide stable electricity for residential areas and enterprises in the Khorgos agglomeration.

The opening ceremony was attended by the deputy akim of the region, Aset Kanagatov. He noted that Jetisu has considerable potential for the development of renewable energy sources owing to favorable natural conditions. "Under the guidance of the regional akim, targeted work is being carried out in this direction. Currently, the region operates 15 hydroelectric stations, 2 wind farms, and 3 solar plants. Today's launch of the solar power plant will enhance generation capacity and the reliability of the region's power supply," said A. Kanagatov.

Denis Tsarev, director of LLP "Jetisu Terra Power," detailed the project's features: "We have connected the ‘Zharkent-2’ solar power plant with a capacity of 20 MW. This plant can produce up to 33 million kWh of clean energy per year, which is sufficient to power Zharkent and nearby settlements. This is our second project in this region. In March, we commissioned a solar power plant with similar specifications, bringing the total capacity to 40 MW."

He added that the company is tasked with developing green energy to prevent electricity shortages. "In this context, projects for constructing solar power plants have been implemented here. In total, 62,000 solar panels with a capacity of 650-680 watts each have been installed on a 50-hectare area," noted Serikbay Kobelekov, director of the "Zharkent-1" solar power plant.

The development of renewable energy remains a priority in the region. Between 2026 and 2028, an additional 9 renewable energy facilities with a total capacity exceeding 170 MW are planned to be commissioned.
