Water Supply Projects Near Completion for 20,000 Residents in Medeu District of Almaty
Water supply projects in Medeu District, Almaty, are nearing completion, ensuring reliable drinking water for 20,000 residents. The project is 78% complete.
In Medeu District of Almaty, construction is ongoing for water supply projects designed to provide more reliable and stable drinking water access to approximately 20,000 residents. This project is commissioned by the Almaty Department of Energy and Water Supply. The overall completion of the project stands at 78%.
The project includes the construction of two clean water tanks with a total capacity of 2,000 cubic meters, the installation of main and emergency pipelines, and the building of retaining structures to strengthen slopes.
Major activities are continuing at the construction site. The wall concreting for the first reservoir is finished, while concreting work has been completed for the second. The next phase involves setting up coverings.
A significant portion of the pipeline construction is complete. The main 3.5 km dual-track main pipeline is 97% complete. The laid sections have successfully passed pneumatic testing. Remaining works near the pump station are expected to wrap up by the end of October.
The construction of the 1 km dual-track emergency pipeline is fully complete. It has undergone and passed leak tests. Additionally, the main distribution chamber has been built, ensuring connection of pipelines from the existing reservoir as well as supply and distribution lines to consumers.

Preparations are simultaneously underway to modernize the existing pump station. Tree pruning and site cleaning have been conducted. Upcoming works include interior finishes, and replacement of electric cables and transformers.
Restoration and landscaping are continuing on construction sites. Asphalt paving of main streets is 85% complete. On the remaining sections, works are in progress, including the construction of drainage gutters.
Slope reinforcement and the construction of retaining walls are ongoing. Earthworks for some sections have begun, including preparations for gabion installations.
Upon project completion, an additional reserve of clean water will be established in Medeu District, increasing the reliability of the water supply system and reducing the risk of drinking water supply interruptions for around 20,000 residents.
