In Kazakhstan, new requirements for water metering devices have been approved

In Kazakhstan, new requirements for water metering devices have been approved.

By order of the Minister of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan, amendments have been approved to the Rules for the selection, installation, and operation of water metering devices and systems in the water supply and wastewater systems of settlements.

The updated rules are aimed at ensuring automated data transmission to information-measurement systems (IMS) and energy consumption accounting systems. The changes provide for the establishment of requirements for a unified data transmission network NB-IoT with the possibility of using LoRaWAN technology. At the same time, the operation of metering devices will prioritize the NB-IoT network, while previously installed devices using LoRaWAN technology may be used until the end of their service life.

The document also includes the following additions:

  • definition of remote data collection and transmission;
  • implementation of an automated energy consumption accounting system (AECS);
  • classification of metering devices by installation location, operating principle, and method of data transmission (NB-IoT, LoRaWAN);
  • requirements for installation, operation, and warranty period of metering devices.

In addition, the document establishes a requirement for a warranty period of service for metering devices of at least five years.
