Astana Plants Over 757,000 Greenery Since Start of the Year

Since the beginning of the year, Astana has planted over 757,000 trees, shrubs, and perennial flowers. The expansive greening project covers all six districts of the city, adding new plants along streets, in parks, squares, courtyards, and major public areas, as reported by ЖКХ24 citing the official website of the Astana Akimat.

Currently, Astana's green fund includes over 4 million plantings. Approximately 14 million trees and shrubs grow within the 'Green Belt'. Each year, the capital city plants at least one million new plants.

Specifically, since the start of the year, the city has planted 27,000 trees, 322,400 decorative flowering shrubs, 28,000 hedge plants, 130,700 shrubs, and 249,200 perennial flowers.

Astana's greening process is comprehensive. New trees and shrubs are planted not only in parks and squares but also along major urban thoroughfares, including Syganak and Kerei-Zhanibek Khan streets, and the Kabanbay Batyr and Uly Dala avenues. In certain areas, complete green zones consisting of thousands of trees are being established.

One of the key projects is the 'Myngzhyldyk' Alley. A new square behind Kuanyshbayev Kazakh Musical Drama Theater has already been set up. A green park is being developed near the Nurly Zhol railway station to extend the alley.

New green spaces are also emerging within the city's blocks. At the intersection of K. Satpaev Street and B. Momyshuly Avenue, a new square has been opened instead of the previously planned residential complex. The area features walking paths, relaxation zones, modern small architectural forms, and plantings of trees, shrubs, and floral compositions.

The area around the city circus has also been transformed. Previously vacant areas now feature new trees and shrubs, a refurbished children's playground, and comfortable spots for walking and relaxation.

Additional greenery has been added to the KazMunayGas square, where 100 trees have been planted. Landscaping of the 6-hectare area is nearing completion, and the overall green fund of the square will include over 2,000 trees.

The second phase of the GreenLine boulevard, stretching 2.3 km, is ongoing. This continuous pedestrian route snakes through residential blocks, featuring trees, shrubs, perennials, rest areas, playgrounds, and public spaces. The project aims to create a more comfortable microclimate and increase shaded areas in the urban environment.

The city's greening efforts are also part of the fall environmental month 'Taza Kazakhstan', which runs from September 12 to October 10 across all parts of Astana. During the citywide and district eco-campaigns, trees and shrubs are planted, and parks, squares, courtyards, and other public spaces are improved. In addition, sanitation and waste cleanup operations are conducted. Enterprises, organizations, homeowners' cooperatives, small and medium businesses, volunteers, and residents of the capital take part in these activities.

Alongside new plantings, significant focus is placed on maintaining the existing green fund. Specialists regularly irrigate, treat plants for pests and diseases, apply fertilizers, restore irrigation systems, and perform other agronomic duties.

This approach not only increases the number of green plantings but also ensures their preservation and survival.

Previously, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed to continue systematic efforts to develop urban infrastructure, enhance and green Astana. Beautification works are ongoing in all six districts of the capital. By the end of 2026, more than 170 courtyards and public spaces are planned to be developed in Astana. In recent years, approximately 500 parks, squares, boulevards, and courtyard areas have been upgraded in the capital.
