Plastic Transformed into Furniture in Almaty
Almaty hosts 'Create Your Own Furniture' event showcasing plastic waste transformation into furniture, supported by local officials and ECO Network.

In Almaty, an event called "Create Your Own Furniture" demonstrated how plastic waste is converted into finished products. The event took place at an Eco Hub based at Satbayev University with support from the Almaty city administration, TОО "Eco Almaty" reports.
Participants included Serik Adilbayev, head of the Almaty Department of Ecology and Environment, representatives from the URBIO plant, and Yevgeny Mukhamedzhanov, founder of ECO Network and Eco Hubs. They discussed collaborative efforts in recycling raw materials, and winners of the event shared their experiences and received prizes.
Residents of Almaty can donate used plastic fruit crates to Eco Hubs. The collected materials are tracked on the ECO Network digital platform and can be exchanged for furniture and other products once a sufficient volume is accumulated.
Such production is already operational in Almaty. For instance, over 120,000 caps collected by schoolchildren were used to create 11 benches for the South Park, consuming approximately 250 kg of plastic.
Since 2024, as part of the "Kind Cap" project, residents of Almaty have collected over a million caps, which are also used to produce chess sets, keychains, Christmas ornaments, and other items.
There are two ECO Network Eco Hubs in Almaty—on Markov Street and at Satbayev University—where various types of recyclable materials are accepted, environmental campaigns are conducted, and visitors are familiarized with recycling technologies.
