Cleaning Efforts for the Akbulak Canal in Astana Continue
Ongoing cleaning efforts for the Akbulak Canal in Astana focus on restoring the water ecosystem using bioproducts as part of the 'Clean Kazakhstan' initiative.

The cleaning efforts for the Akbulak Canal in Astana are ongoing as part of the 'Clean Kazakhstan' initiative. These efforts include biological cleaning activities aimed at restoring the water ecosystem, reducing pollution levels, and improving water quality.
The environmental campaign is organized by Astana's Environmental Protection and Nature Management Department. Experts and volunteers used certified bioproducts containing beneficial microorganisms that aid in the natural restoration of the water body's ecosystem.
"These bioproducts are used for the biological cleaning of water bodies, helping to restore the ecological balance within their ecosystems. Through scientific research, we have developed new strains of microorganisms, which were also derived from the water body itself. The strain is called Bacillus subtilis. These microorganisms have undergone extensive research and careful selection. The result is a highly concentrated bioproduct, BioLine ABS Bio, which contains a culture of active microorganisms used for water purification," explained Azamat Sadykov, Deputy Director for Science at Astana Bioscience Business Center.

The specialist also highlighted that several preparations were developed specifically for cleaning the Akbulak Canal, with all works conducted under a three-year comprehensive cleaning program that began at the start of 2026.
According to experts, the applied biological cleaning technologies adapt to the characteristics of each water body, aiming to restore the aquatic ecosystem without using chemical reagents.
It is noteworthy that the participants of the environmental campaign and volunteers are also implementing similar biological cleaning projects on Saribulak and Taldykol lakes in the vicinity of Astana.
