Mayor of Almaty Discusses Smart City Technologies with Hyundai Motor Group
Almaty Mayor Darkhan Satubaldi meets with Hyundai Motor Group to discuss smart city technologies and future automotive projects.

The Mayor of Almaty, Darkhan Satubaldi, met with a delegation from Hyundai Motor Group to discuss the implementation of smart city technologies. The meeting included the participation of Ho-Geun Jeong, Executive Vice President and Head of Future Strategy Department, and Jae-Yoon Lee, Vice President of the company.
The parties explored the possibility of integrating autonomous mobile robots and intelligent transport management systems. Darkhan Satubaldi proposed evaluating the use of Hyundai Motor Group's MobED robotic platform and other autonomous solutions for urban mobility and logistics.
Discussions also covered the application of artificial intelligence for managing traffic flows, automating logistics processes, and developing a network of charging stations for electric vehicles.
During the meeting, further development of automotive production was addressed. It is planned that by 2025, more than 52,000 vehicles will be produced at the Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan plant in Almaty, creating around 1,700 jobs.
It is worth recalling that in September 2026, during Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's state visit to South Korea, commercial agreements were signed for projects in Almaty amounting to approximately $238.3 million. These include the expansion of automotive production, localization of auto components manufacturing, and construction of a multi-speciality clinic and a Lotte hotel.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue working on the proposed projects. The Almaty City Administration expressed readiness to facilitate cooperation between Hyundai Motor Group and relevant organizations as well as local partners.
