Eco-Event for Recycling Collection to Take Place in Almaty

An eco-event for the collection and recycling of waste is set to take place in Almaty. On October 11, 2023, residents will have the opportunity to see how ordinary plastic caps and other waste can be transformed into valuable recycling materials. The ecological event will be held in the Almaly district on the grounds of the Lake Town residential complex, as reported by Eco Almaty LLP.

The event is organized by ECO Network, an ecological community that promotes waste separation culture and conducts educational activities for city residents in Almaty.

Participants can expect a mobile eco-platform, acceptance of pre-sorted recyclables, and interactive activities. One of the highlights will be the 'bicycle shredder,' where attendees can shred plastic caps themselves and witness a step in the recycling process.

Items such as plastic caps and bottles, paper, bags and other polyethylene, glass jars and bottles, batteries, light bulbs, and aluminum cans can be deposited at the event.

Separate collection starts with a simple action—properly segregating waste and bringing it for recycling.

Important Rule: All materials submitted must be dry and clean, organizers remind participants.

Kazakhstan to Introduce 4 GW of Traditional Generation by 2028-2029

Kazakhstan plans to add 4 GW of traditional generation capacity by 2028-2029 to meet rising electricity demand, alongside renewable energy growth.

Kazakhstan to Introduce 4 GW of Traditional Generation by 2028-2029

The Ministry of Energy has developed a long-term plan for the development of electric power in Kazakhstan, aiming for a phased introduction of new generation capacities in 2028-2029. This plan focuses on increasing the available capacity of the energy system, meeting the growing demand for electricity, and fostering the growth of both traditional generation and renewable energy sources.

In 2028, Kazakhstan is set to introduce 2 GW of traditional generation. Projects under this plan include the construction of combined cycle gas turbines (CCGT) in Taraz, Atyrau, and Aktobe, the third unit of the Ekibastuz GRES-2, a boiler and turbine unit at Karaganda Energy Center, a boiler and turbine unit at Kazakhmys Energy's BTES, a boiler and turbine unit at Kazakhmys Energy's ZTES, as well as the expansion and modernization of the Aksu GRES power unit.

In 2029, the country plans to introduce 2.3 GW of traditional generation. Projects listed include the construction of a turbine and boiler unit at the Ust-Kamenogorsk CHPP, the introduction of five gas turbine units (GTU) at the Atyrau CHPP, the construction of two GTUs by Batys Power LLP, and the commissioning of CHPPs in Kokshetau, Semey, and Ust-Kamenogorsk, as well as the first unit of Ekibastuz GRES-3.

Additionally, the development of renewable energy is planned. In 2028, the introduction of 2.2 GW of renewable energy projects is anticipated, followed by 2.8 GW in 2029.

The implementation of major projects in both traditional and "green" energy is expected to significantly increase generating capacities in Kazakhstan, enabling the energy system to achieve a stable surplus by 2029.
