Deputy Minister of Energy Reviews NCOC's Kashagan Facilities in Atyrau Region

The Deputy Minister of Energy visited the production facilities of NCOC in the Atyrau Region. On September 17, 2026, a delegation from the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, led by Deputy Minister Yerlan Akbarov, went on a working trip to visit the company's facilities.

The ministry representatives conducted an inspection flight over the area and visited the "D" artificial island in the Caspian Sea. Initially built as a drilling site, it now functions as an operational technology complex and includes auxiliary islands EPC2, EPC3, and EPC4. Approximately 3.5 million tonnes of rock material were used in its construction.

At the marine complex, the high-pressure fluid extracted is separated into oil and gas. Some of the raw gas is reinjected into the reservoir to maintain pressure, while the remaining gas and oil are transported via pipeline to the Bolashak Onshore Processing Facility for further preparation for export.

"Kashagan is one of the most complex offshore projects in the world. The main requirements for the operator are the accident-free operation of equipment, the safety of specialists, and strict adherence to environmental standards in the Caspian, especially with the approaching winter season," emphasized Yerlan Akbarov.

During the visit, the readiness of the island's protective hydraulic structures and icebreaker fleet for operation in the icy conditions of the northern Caspian Sea was assessed. The Deputy Minister also checked the living conditions in the "Shapagat" and "Karlygash" residential complexes, noting that more than 90% of the operational activities involve Kazakhstani specialists.

As part of the visit, NCOC updated the Ministry's delegation on the current status of operations at the Bolashak Facility and reported on the production performance to date.
