Efforts Intensified to Reduce Emissions from Businesses in Medeu District, Almaty

In the Medeu district of Almaty, authorities are monitoring businesses that might affect air quality. The checks target bathhouses, saunas, food service venues, manufacturing bases, and service stations, according to LLP 'Eco Almaty'.

The main goal is to identify fuel types and equipment used, assess potential air impact, and aid entrepreneurs in meeting environmental standards.

The district has 49 bathhouses and saunas, with 26 using solid fuel and 23 electric equipment. Six have already switched to gas heating. By year-end, a further shift to more eco-friendly fuels, such as natural gas, is planned.

Special attention is given to food service venues. There are 152 in the district, with 69 mainly using solid fuel for cooking. Entrepreneurs are being educated on switching to greener technologies. Plans to transition these venues to electric grills by year-end are underway.

Manufacturing bases are also under surveillance. All identified bases have switched to gas fuel.

The district is home to 44 service stations, with 23 using electric and 21 gas fuel equipment.

Efforts are citywide, adhering to Almaty's Air Protection Regulations. The document emphasizes enhancing control over category III facilities, conducting emission measurements, and meeting ecological standards through filtration systems.

For businesses in gas-supplied areas, a gradual phase-out of solid and liquid fuels is underway. Business owners are briefed on legal obligations and emission reduction strategies. Monitoring allows an assessment of current conditions and prepares businesses for upcoming environmental standards.
