Extensive Urban Development Underway in Astana's Baikonur District

This year, Astana's Baikonur district is undergoing extensive urban development aimed at creating a comfortable and safe environment for residents. Key priorities include renovating courtyards, enhancing public spaces, greening initiatives, and creating favorable conditions for residents' leisure, reports Housing and Utilities 24, citing the website of the Astana City Administration.

A total of 107 courtyards in the district have been fully renovated this year. Of these, 17 courtyards underwent comprehensive modernization as part of the beautification works. A significant portion of these efforts was part of the 'Public Participation Budget' project, which supports citizen proposals and initiatives. Thanks to the direct involvement of residents, 11 courtyards have been transformed.

Specifically, modern and safe children's playgrounds, sports workout zones, rest areas, and other necessary infrastructure have been installed in the courtyard areas of Otyrar, Zh. Omarova, A. Baraeva streets, and along Respublika and Abai avenues.

Furthermore, the district is also actively engaged in repair and restoration work. This year, such works have been conducted in 90 courtyards, where internal roads, pedestrian sidewalks, play areas, and rest zones are being gradually updated.

In addition to courtyard beautification, special attention is given to the creation of new public spaces. This year, 4 new public zones have been developed in the district, located on Imanbaeva, Pushkina, Kenessary, and Seifullin streets.

One of the major projects in public space beautification was the transformation of the area near the "Tulpar" shopping center. Previously, this site was cluttered with old and illegal trading facilities. In compliance with legal requirements, these facilities were dismantled, and the area was brought to order. In their place, a modern and attractive public space was created for the city's residents and visitors.

The area was landscaped, providing comfortable conditions for pedestrians, with rest areas and green spots established. Consequently, the area previously used for unregulated trade has turned into a new public space, becoming a cozy place for city dwellers to relax.

Moreover, greening is a priority in the district. Since the beginning of the year, over 2,000 green plantings have been introduced. Trees have been planted along streets, in courtyards, and public spaces to increase the district's green fund.

The outcomes of this work are already evident. Last year's planting of 80 apple and pear saplings on Zh. Tashenova street's park has borne its first fruits this year. This is a tangible result of the district's greening efforts.

The autumn greening campaign is currently ongoing. For instance, along Kenessary street, the planting of 230 large trees is planned. Additionally, approximately 500 more green plantings will be introduced throughout the district during the autumn season.

The main goal of the beautification efforts in the Baikonur district is to create a safe, comfortable, and modern urban environment for residents. Comprehensive attention is given to updating courtyard areas, enhancing public spaces, greening, improving pedestrian infrastructure, and fostering active community participation.

Beautification works will continue in phases, with renovations of courtyards and public zones being carried out in line with the needs and suggestions of the residents themselves. The extensive development efforts have also reached the district's residential areas.

For instance, this year in the residential area of Ondiris on Akpan street, a vacant plot underwent comprehensive development based on resident requests, leading to the opening of a children's playground. Furthermore, a long-awaited public space for relaxation and a children's playground were established in the Koyandy summer house area.

It is worth recalling that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev previously instructed a continuation of the systemic work on urban infrastructure development, beautification, and greening of Astana. Beautification works are ongoing across all six districts of the capital. In recent years, Astana has seen the improvement of around 500 public and courtyard spaces.
