Astana Installs 12 New Poles to Enhance Mobile Internet Quality

Astana is executing a project to install dual-purpose poles aimed at enhancing mobile communication quality and internet coverage, while also developing the city's telecommunications infrastructure. To date, the city has erected 12 such structures that combine street lighting with communication equipment, according to ZHKH24 citing the official website of the Astana City Administration.

At first glance, these structures look almost identical to regular streetlight poles. However, inside, they house mobile communication equipment intended to expand the city's telecommunications network.

This solution is particularly important for a modern city. Dual-purpose poles allow the integration of communication equipment directly into the existing urban environment, ensuring efficient space utilization.

Technical elements are placed inside the construction. As a result, the poles maintain an aesthetic and compact appearance, fully adhering to the capital's unified design code.

The project is a joint endeavor by the Astana Department of Digitalization and Public Services and the mobile operator Beeline Kazakhstan.

"The main goal of the project is to improve mobile communication quality and mobile internet coverage in the city. As the capital develops, so do the demands on telecommunications infrastructure. Dual-purpose poles allow necessary equipment to be placed directly in the urban environment, combining it with lighting infrastructure without overwhelming the space with additional structures. This is a practical solution for developing digital infrastructure that considers the needs of a modern city," stated Berik Akhmetov, Head of the Department of Digitalization and Public Services of Astana.

In the future, the functionality of these structures could be expanded. The poles could serve as infrastructure for various systems—from surveillance cameras and air quality sensors to smart lighting systems and other Smart City technology solutions.

"Such projects clearly demonstrate that communication development is a shared responsibility of the city and businesses. When there is an opportunity to discuss needs jointly and find effective solutions, work progresses faster and results become tangible.
