Embassies Join Forces to Clean Up Esil Riverbank in Astana

Embassies from various countries conducted a cleanup event along the Esil Riverbank in Astana. Around 500 volunteers participated in this eco-friendly initiative as part of the national "Taza Kazakhstan" campaign and World Cleanup Day, reports the official website of Astana's Akimat.

The environmental initiative was organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Kazakhstan and the Estonian Embassy in Astana.

Diplomats and embassy staff from Europe, America, Asia, and Africa, along with representatives from international organizations, students, residents, and visitors to the capital, joined forces to clean up the banks of the Esil River.

The EU Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Aleska Simkic, emphasized that such initiatives help transform global environmental challenges into tangible local actions.

"Together with our Kazakhstani partners and hundreds of participants, we remind ourselves and others that everyone’s contribution matters and everyone can make the world a better place. Kazakhstan rightly prides itself on its beautiful and wild nature, and it's up to us to preserve it without leaving waste behind. I hope today's event resonates and inspires more people to contribute to creating a cleaner and healthier environment," noted Aleska Simkic.

The event's program included not only the cleanup but also interactive zones dedicated to eco-friendly living. Participants could exchange unwanted clothes for souvenirs in partnership with Likekomek. ECONetwork set up an eco-zone, Green Point, featuring products made from recycled plastic and providing information on waste sorting and management.

Estonia's Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Marje Luup, reminded that World Cleanup Day began in Estonia in 2008 and has since grown into an international environmental movement.

"World Cleanup Day is not just about picking up trash. It's about people's willingness to take responsibility for the places they live in. It symbolizes global solidarity, showing that environmental issues transcend borders and require both local and international actions," emphasized Marje Luup.

The environmental event was also preceded by the launch of the #EUKZWalkingChallenge. This initiative aims to combine daily physical activity with environmental awareness.
