International Meeting in Dushanbe on Seismic Standards for Central Asia Begins
An international meeting in Dushanbe begins today to develop unified seismic standards for Central Asia, lasting until October 15th.

Today marked the start of an international meeting in Dushanbe for the working group of the project 'Development of Unified Seismic Standards for Central Asia', which will take place over two days on October 14th and 15th. The event is organized with the participation of the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC).
Representatives from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and the Kyrgyz Republic are joined by international experts from Canada and the USA at this meeting.
The initiative to develop unified seismic standards was spearheaded by the Joint Stock Company 'Kazakh Scientific Research and Design Institute of Construction and Architecture' (JSC 'KazNIISA'). The project aims to harmonize the regulatory requirements of Central Asian countries, foster scientific and technical cooperation, and enhance construction safety in earthquake-prone areas.
Over the course of the two-day meeting, participants will review existing national standards for earthquake-resistant construction, methods for calculating seismic design loads, and contemporary approaches to the design of buildings and structures. Special attention will be given to the international experience of Japan, Turkey, Canada, and the USA, which could be instrumental in improving the regulatory framework in the region.

The development of unified seismic standards is intended to establish a foundation for coordinated approaches to ensuring the earthquake resilience of buildings and structures, taking into account the unique characteristics and risks of each country. This will facilitate the combination of scientific and engineering potential among Central Asian nations and strengthen collaboration among seismic construction specialists.
The meeting is expected to conclude with discussions on the future stages of the project and the identification of avenues for joint efforts to refine regulatory requirements and improve the safety of buildings and structures in seismic zones.
