Urban Revitalization in Astana's Sarayshyq District: Thousands of Trees Planted and New Recreational Spaces Developed
Astana's Sarayshyq district sees a major urban revitalization with thousands of trees planted, new public spaces, and enhanced streets and courtyards.

A significant urban revitalization effort is underway in the Sarayshyq district of the capital, which includes updating streets and courtyards, creating new public spaces, pedestrian and cycling routes, sports facilities, and green areas.
One of the major projects involves the enhancement of R. Koshkarbayev Avenue from K. Amandzholov Street to S. Nurmagambetov Street, as well as S. Nurmagambetov Street. The total area being revitalized spans 35,000 square meters.
The project includes the installation of 17,000 square meters of paving stones and 4,000 square meters of asphalt. There are 100 newly installed outdoor lighting fixtures and 40 sets that include benches and trash bins. Additionally, 7,500 linear meters of local irrigation system pipeline have been laid down. A total of 1,136 trees and 68,756 shrubs have been planted.
Another project has been implemented around residential buildings on K. Azerbayev Street, numbers 6/1, 6/2, 6/3, 6/4, and 6/5. This area now features 2,065 square meters of paving stones and a total of 750 meters of bike paths. Additionally, 10 outdoor lighting fixtures and 75 trees have been installed.
A park near house number 9/1 on A. Bolekpayeva Street has also been revitalized, with 900 square meters of paving stones and increased greenery. Three shaded canopies and 19 outdoor lighting fixtures have been installed; a football field and a workout zone have been developed.
Special attention is given to courtyard areas. In 2026, within the "People's Participation Budget" project, 11 courtyards in the Sarayshyq district were revitalized. Work was conducted at the following locations: T. Zhurgenova Street, 18/2; R. Koshkarbayev Avenue, 60; K. Azerbayev Street, 6, 6/1, 6/2, 6/3, 6/4, and 6/5; and A. Baitursynov Street, 17/2, 17, 19, and 27.
Greening remains a crucial component of the revitalization efforts. A total of 2,357 trees have been planted across the district. New greenery is appearing along streets, in courtyards, and in public spaces.
The comprehensive revitalization of the Sarayshyq district is ongoing: pedestrian and cycling infrastructure is being developed further, new recreational and sports areas are emerging, and the amount of green spaces is expanding.
It is worth noting that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev had earlier instructed a sustained effort to continue developing the city’s infrastructure, urban beautification, and greening in Astana. Urban revitalization efforts are ongoing in all six districts of the capital. In recent years, around 500 public and courtyard areas have been improved in Astana.
