Firework Ban in Almaty Low Emission Zone Starting 2027

Starting from January 8, 2027, specific regulations within the Air Protection Rules will be enforced in Almaty, targeting the low emission zone (LEZ). These include restrictions on the use of civilian fireworks and pyrotechnic devices.

This requirement is outlined in Clause 51 of the Air Protection Rules of Almaty, approved by the city maslikhat on December 30, 2025. According to the document, within the LEZ, the use of civilian pyrotechnic substances and devices, such as firecrackers, fireworks, and similar products available for public sale, is prohibited.

The enforcement of this rule does not automatically imply a city-wide ban in Almaty. To implement the ban practically, the boundaries of the low emission zone need to be established. These boundaries will be determined by a separate decree from the Almaty city administration. Once defined, the restriction on the use of pyrotechnic devices by civilians will apply within these established limits. Therefore, the rule will take effect from January 8, 2027, but its practical enactment depends on the delineation of the LEZ boundaries.

Additionally, the Air Protection Rules aim to implement various measures to reduce pollution levels, addressing issues related to transportation, the use of solid and liquid fuels, and environmental standards for specific facilities and emission sources.
