Environmental Initiative 'Taza Kazakhstan' Continues in Zhetysu
Zhetysu continues its waste management efforts under 'Taza Kazakhstan', with new facilities and projects planned for enhanced environmental care.
Efforts to improve waste management and beautification in Zhetysu Region are ongoing under the national environmental program 'Taza Kazakhstan.'
Every year, the region produces 220 thousand tons of solid household waste. There are 182 temporary storage sites and seven landfills in operation, with 24 specialized organizations providing waste collection and disposal services. Six enterprises are involved in waste processing and sorting, with a combined capacity of 68,800 tons per year.
To further develop the sector, a Municipal Waste Management Program has been approved, which includes the construction of new facilities, landfill reclamation, and increased recycling volumes.
In the first phase, projects for the construction of landfills in the cities of Sarkan and Usharal, as well as the reclamation of the landfill in Tekeli, have been developed. The largest undertaking will be the construction of a modern waste sorting, recycling, and thermal treatment complex in Taldykorgan. This project involves private investments totaling 11 billion tenge and aims to create 70 jobs. It will cover Taldykorgan and nearby Eskeldin, Karatal, and Koksu districts, along with the city of Tekeli, which generate about 120 thousand tons of waste annually.
Under 'Taza Kazakhstan,' starting from early 2026, 180 events have been held involving over 100 thousand people, with 58 thousand seedlings planted and 9 thousand tons of waste removed.
For territory improvement in 2026, 18.9 billion tenge has been allocated. These funds are being used to enhance public spaces, yards, children's and sports playgrounds, as well as to repair façades and roofs of multi-family houses, develop irrigation systems, and improve street lighting.
By the end of this year, the region plans to plant 121 thousand seedlings. An important feedback tool remains the Taza Kazakhstan Telegram bot. Since its launch, 814 messages have been received, 668 of which have been processed; this year alone, 192 requests were received.
